I will discuss several scenarios when very few photocountevents carry plenty of information meant to be retrieved from themeasurement. Examples include: beating the Rayleigh limit by imaging acomposite light source through spatial mode demultiplexing ortwo-photon interference; transmission of classical information in thephoton-starved regime, when the power of the received optical signal isseverely limited but modulation bandwidth can be set high; and finallyreducing the communication complexity of comparing large datasetsusing quantum fingerprinting.
