Electronic Correlations in Models and Materials

Electronic correlations strongly influence the properties of condensed matter. For example, they may lead to metal-to-insulator transitions, magnetic order, or kinks in the effectice electronic dispersion. In my talk several characteristic correlation-induced properties of modelswill be described and microscopically explained within the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). This discussion is then extended to realmaterials with strong electronic correlations. Here LDA+DMFT, a combination of ab initio band structure methods and the dynamicalmean-field theory, has recently led to important new insights into the properties of correlated electron materials.
