On the 30th of November 2017, at 10:15 a.m.
Stanisław Szawiel (MIMUW)
will give a talk on
"Categories of physical processes"
Abstract
Consider the semi-formal language of contemporary physics. It includes terms such as „classical limit", „spacetime", and „path integral". This language does not interpret — in the sense of mathematical logic — in any current axiomatic framework, such as TQFT, the Wightman axioms, or the Haag–Kastler axioms. Arguments formulated in this language must then be treated as metaphors — completely informal objects.
In this talk, I will outline a new approach to formalizing physics, specifically designed to interpret the widest possible fragment of the language of physics. In the first approximation, it consists of a „non-topological TQFT".
The seminar takes place on Thursdays from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00
in the room 2.23 of the main building of the Faculty of Physics (the 2nd floor), Pasteur Str. 5,
Warszawa.
