On the 12th of May 2016, at 10:15 a.m.
Bronisław Jakubczyk (IM PAN)
will give a talk on
"Pontryagin Maximum Principle, optimal control and geodesics on sub-Riemannian
manifolds"
Abstract
We will state the Pontryagin Maximum Principle (PMP) and show some of its
consequences. As a first order necessary condition for optimality it allows finding extremals in optimal control problems. It is also a basic tool for analyzing their properties.
In the second part of the seminar, we intend to describe some fundamental
notions and facts in sub-Riemannian geometry. Applying PMP we will briefly
describe the structure of geodesics, especially of abnormal ones which do not appear in Riemannian geometry.
The seminar takes place on Thursdays from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00
in the room 2.23 of the main building of the Faculty of Physics (the 2nd floor), Pasteur Str. 5,
Warszawa.
